ILLNESS CAUSED BY BACTERIAL BLOOM

Other names: Cloudy water Type of disesase: This is not a disease. It is actually a water quality issue. Causes: Overfeeding, overcrowding, poor filtration, aeration, low water circulation,

poor maintenance. A medication could have kill the bacteria colonies. The cleaning of all filters at once combined with large water changes can trigger the problem, due to the removal of bacterial colonies.



Symptoms: Water may appear cloudy white and smell milky. Gasping, reddened gills, pale color, periodic excitability which can be accompanied by jumping out of the water, spinning.

Note: The most notable effect is usally to deplete the water of Oxygen, leading to Hypoxia. Fish will try to find Oxygen at the surface.

Medication:
The best measure to take is to make a large water change, using a siphon to remove waste from the gravel. Check filter and all pumps. Do not clean or replace all filter media at the same time and the same day as you change the water.
